Boozhoo, hello. If you’ve found your way to this little corner of the internet, you are either a geographer at heart or clicked on the link I’ve shared on Bluesky.
Welcome to my blog.
What’s the purpose of this blog? Well, it’s a few things. One of them is a place for me to speak on things that interest me from an academic, intellectual, and professional standpoint. So, plenty of stuff on the environment, geography, Indigenous issues, politics–or more likely, a combination of all these things.
The second is a place for me to be able to write things that are too short to be academic articles in their own right but are too long to be accurately portrayed in a Bluesky thread. I’ve been kicking around this idea since I was on Twitter/X–threads are suitable for pithy introductions to issues, but nuanced discussion can often get lost when you have a 240-character limit per post. This blog attempts to find some sort of happy medium between the two.
You’re viewing this on my website so you can read more about me and my academic interests. Still, for introduction’s sake, I’ll tell you more about myself–I’m an Ojibwe (Leech Lake Band) geographer who spends most of their time on the West Coast of Canada, in Victoria, B.C. I have a lot of different interests, but what interests me the most right now are the various ways Indigenous communities in North America, as well as worldwide, deal with the effects of climate change. As we go along, you’ll probably hear a bit about my research.
I hope you will enjoy reading the posts that will be coming soon–my goal is to write at least one post a week.
Until next time,
